Both GE and Frigdaire offer slate appliances. GE has expanded their slate lineup to include wall ovens, convection microwaves and cooktops. Sales far exceeded their projections and public reaction has been quite favorable. Pfister is jumping on the slate bandwagon by expending their line of faucets. Is slate going to be big competition for stainless steel-doubtful. But as long as white kitchens are the thing and people begin to look for other options in appliance finishes, I think slate will remain viable.

Slate Ranges This is your kitchen command center. It’s the first thing people notice when they step into your kitchen. Slate ranges make sure they’re noticing for all the right reasons. Where to Buy A seamless surface on electric ranges makes it easy to wipe away messes. For gas ranges, a continuous surface means more space for large pots and pans. Front controls give a professional look and complete control over heat levels. Thank you for reporting this comment. Undo divehound I’ve had mine for 3 months – love the color. Like the microwave, oven is too noisy during preheat and takes a long time to get to temperature. Refrig is ok. Dishwasher good. GE did discontinue slate trim version on the cooktop but it was only a thin band on the knobs. The black cooktop is hard to keep clean but I think that would be true of any black. We went with vent-a-hood to get slate but GE started making a hood in slate after we bought. Overall – worth it for the slate color. Be careful though / we had a calendar hanging on refrig by a couple of magnets and now have slight scratch where the magnets were from the movement. We went brushed nickel on hardware and like with the slate. Like Bookmark September 2, 2016 at 7:57PM

I think this is hilarious. Reading the comments from 2014 commenting on how it won’t last, already doing away with, and here we are 3 years later and slate is more popular than ever. We’re seeing the matte finish being the most popular, whether in the brownish slate color, stainless now with a fingerprint proof matte finish, and the newest, while not in appliances (yet), the new champagne brass. Just purchased all new appliances for my kitchen, and yep they’re slate!
