When you’ve decided on a style for your mosaic tile backsplash, it’s time to stop planning and start installing. You can choose to hire a contractor to install your backsplash, or you can go the DIY route. Many homeowners find mosaic tile to be one of the more DIY-friendly styles of tile, since the small tiles are generally placed on an adhesive mesh backing that sticks to the wall—this eliminates the need to cut tiles (a tedious process) and add grout between them. That said, although hiring a contractor to install your backsplash will be more expensive, it’s almost guaranteed to save you time, frustration and exertion.

This product is easy to install for those who are handy- good with a saw and/or dremel. If one does not feel comfortable with cutting and measuring – not a project that should be attempted. Product will bend and deform when cut with shears, but tile nips would work. Dremel is great for smoothing edges after cuts. Adhesive is very strong. If you misplace a tile, it will pull the drywall off when you try to remove and reset the piece. SO be very careful when placing your tile. It took about 6 hours to complete a 16 foot backsplash with 4 outlets to cut around. Highly important to draw a straight level line on the wall to make sure pieces are level! This could be a disaster if the tiles were not level and ran either up or downward across the backsplash. Just take your time! Measure twice to be certain, cut once to be exact and gently place the tile against the wall for placement. Tile will grip slightly, but can still be adjusted. Caution – As soon as you press the tile to the wall, it will not be adjustable. Again, it was not hard, just needed to be careful and cautious. IT LOOKS GREAT!!! We receive MANY MANY compliments from friends and family about this backsplash. VERY STYLISH! Favors modern or contemporary designs. Cleanup is easy! NO GROUT!!! – GET THE KIT – it has trim pieces for a professional looking finished edge! And it is easier for us to just buy metal outlet covers than attempt to use the sheets to cover existing outlet covers,

Now that the scope of the project is clear, it’s time to think about the style of mosaic tile you’ll use. You’ll have a great deal of choices in this area, from glass and ceramic to many types of granite or stone. In general, ceramic and synthetics will be the cheapest materials; glass, stone and other natural materials will be more expensive. Ultimately, the style you choose may be defined by whether or not you plan to match the existing design of your kitchen or if you’ll use the mosaic backsplash as a bit of a style departure. For example, an understated, contemporary kitchen could be complemented with a simple, black-and-white design—or you might choose to add color with a vibrant, multicolored mosaic. Using glass will generally create a brighter and more reflective design, whereas stone or granite may offer a more matte feel.

Mosaics are defined as small, glazed glass, stone, or tile pieces organized in a design or pattern. Some mosaics, like those in Roman bathhouses, depicted plants, animals, people, landscapes, etc. In the last 50 years, the most popular mosaic material has been the glazed ceramic 1 x 1 tile arranged in a geometric repeating pattern. More recently, the definition of mosaic is broadening to include uniquely shaped tiles, random designs, and modern art. Here are some mosaic backsplash ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
